Description

Well it's mine and nearly every year I try to take a better image of M51, the famous whirlpool galaxy. Strategy this time was to collect much more data than I usually do which of course should lead to a better image especially under light polluted skies. This image was taken over the unusual period of several clear nights in March. I initially had a few problems with drift in declination, the problem lay with the brass compression ring in the focuser causing a less than tight hold on my new coma corrector, these things are sent to try us!

The longer luminance integration has brought out more faint PGC galaxies in the background which didn't show on my previous attempt, also I held back on adding the full amount of Ha to give a more natural look.

Hope you like it :-)
