Description

This Astrobin Debut Object, also known as LEDA 4789, is a spiral galaxy located 650 million light years away in the constellation of Pisces at a declination of +12 degrees. .   In his Arp catalog, Dr. Arp classified this object into the category of Spiral Galaxies with Low Surface Brightness Companions on Arms.

The galaxy appears brighter than its magnitude 16 rating, although it is very small in our apparent view.  It is disturbed, likely by one or more of the 3 companions which appear around it.

The small orange elliptical to the left of LEDA 4789 is 2 billion light years away, so it is not a true companion.  No distance information is available for the other 2 nearby galaxies - the small blue galaxy to the right or the larger spiral below it - so it is not clear whether these are true companions.

The small blue galaxy looks to be caught up in a star stream bridge with LEDA 4789.  My guess is that the blue galaxy is a true companion as Dr. Arp had concluded.

The attached Revision E image is a wider view that captures 3 Arp objects (Arp 48, Arp 88 & Arp 119) in a framing within a field radius of 0.23 degrees, representing the tightest framing of 3 Arp objects in the entire Arp catalog.
