A medium-sized face-on spiral 22 million light years away. It has had ten supernova explosions over the past 100 years. The Milky Way averages one supernova every 100 years and has twice as many stars. In the lower right is an open cluster that is much closer. It is only 4000 light years away and within the Milky Way. It is over a billion years old.
