Description

Exposure = 40 x 10 sec (400 sec)

Between 23 and 24 October 2007, Comet 17P / Holmes, whose orbit is located between Mars and Jupiter, increased significantly in brightness, going from a magnitude of 17 to a magnitude of 2.8 in just a few hours, becoming visible to unarmed view towards the constellation of Perseus. On this date (10/27/2007), it is possible to distinguish through the telescope the well-defined shiny core and the comet's hair, a fact that the images presented here prove. Most likely, the increase in brightness observed is due to the release of particles.

17P / Holmes is a periodic comet (with an orbital period of 6.88 years), discovered by British amateur astronomer Edwin Holmes on 6 November 1892.
