This image of the Veil Nebula (Eastern) is data from 2 nights of imaging here at Penmitlaw Observatory in Auburn, Michigan USA. I used 2 different filters. The 1st night I used the Optolong L-Pro to help preserve the star color and the second night I used the dual band IDAS NBZ filter to bring out the Ha and OIII wavelengths. I'm quite happy with it though I'm sure others could process it better then I did.

The 1st night transparency was not all that great 3/5 but seeing was quite good 7-8 / 10. The 2nd night the transparency early was very good 4/5 and about the same for seeing as the night before 7-8 / 10. Processed and combined in APP with Star calibration and light pollution prior to tweaking in Gimp.

Description: This is a complete redo using APP and the RGBHOO algorithm. I really like how I was able to bring out more detail in the nebula. I also backed off on the star reduction.

Description: This is the same data used thru out all rev's but I used "star calibration" in APP and the nebulosity is a tad more to the orangish side giving it a more warmer feel. I'm at a loss as to which one I like most. Feel free to tell me which one you like better in the comments.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
