Description

I took this image under adverse conditions - wind gusting 15mph, some high cloud and 9 day old gibbous moon. I tried autoguiding but struggling to get RMS below 4” so decided to image unguided.

This image shows how easy it is to get a respectable image, with only basic polar alignment (using polar scope but no drift alignment) when using short focal lengths.

The image was captured using 120mm zoom lens on my DSI II OSC and a 1.25” dual narrow band filter housed in Mogg adapter (using a homemade holder made out of a plastic milk bottle top) - a budget rig!

I struggled to develop colour using Startools, despite good depth of colour showing in Envisage image capture software. Anyway another step in the journey and I was pleased with the result given the conditions.

Who would have thought you could image in such bright moonlight...
