Description

Imaged the Flaming Star Nebula (IC 405) in narrowband over the course of six nights in January/February 2021.

Imaged with WO GT81 at F4.7 (382 mm focal length) using Flat6A II field flattener/0.8x reducer, Optolong L-Enhance dual narrowband filter, and full spectrum modified Nikon D5300. Total integration time of ~11 hours: 109 subs at ISO400x360 sec.

Rev B = starless HOO image

Pre-processed using PixInsight Batch Pre-Processing (BPP) script. Images calibrated using darks, flats, and flat darks. Extracted red/green/blue channels using BatchChannelExtraction script. R and G+B channels registered and stacked using StarAlighment and Integration. R and G+B channels individually post-processed in Pixinsight. Initial processing: Cropped, gradient removal with ABE and noise reduction using the EZ Processing Suite for PixInsight EZ Denoise script. Additional post-processing in Pixinsight: mastked stretch, tgvdenoise, local histogram transformation, and morphological transformation.

Starting with individually processed Ha and OIII images generated the HOO pallette image using the following steps in PI:

(1) Used Linearfit to equalize the images (using Ha as the reference)

(2) Used the SHO-AIP script to generate the HOO image (Ha for luminance, R=Ha, G=OIII, B=OIII)

(3) Color saturation boost

Starless version generated using PixInsight starnet process.
