Description

Both the North American Nebula and the nearby Pelican Nebula are actually part of an interstellar cloud of the same region of ionized hydrogen. The interstellar dust between Earth and the complex nebula has absorbed light from the stars and nebula behind it, creating the shapes we see. The exact distance of the nebula is unknown, but as some sources suggest, it was the Dening4 that caused the cloud to drift away. The complex nebula will be about 1,800 light-years away, but its actual size will be about 100 light-years (with an apparent diameter of about 6° in the sky).
New processing of this image. In V2, I try to enhance the detail of part of Sii and remain magenta star in order to balance the color.
