Description

The Cone nebula in the upper left side of the image is roughly 2,700 light years away from Earth.  The Cone's shape comes from dark absorption nebula consisting of cold molecular hydrogen and dust.  The cone is in front of a faint emission nebula which contains hydrogen that is ionized by the bright star S Monocerotis.

The Fox Fur nebula is in the center left of the image.  Nicknamed for its color and texture, it is an area of emission and reflection nebulae caused by nearby energetic young stars.

This is my first attempt at a mosaic on the C11HD.   I have been battling internal reflections with this scope/reducer/camera combination.  Extensive flocking has helped the situation but even still, the moon is causing issues.  I had a good stretch of clear nights around the last full moon, so I decided to test my recent flocking exploits and try a mosaic for the fist time.

Thanks for stoping by.
