Description

M76 or The Little Dumbbell (that looks nothing like the "bigger" cousin, the Dumbell Nebula or M27) is THE eye-catching PN of the constellation it resides in, i.e. Perseus, and one of the brighter in the northern sky. Whilst bright is somewhat less easy to capture high resolution detail than say, M57 or M27, to name a few as the PN structure itself does not lend itself into nice portioning between contrasting features in H-alpha and OIII. The white dwarf at the source of the PN is difficult to resolve as it is a very close visual double with another star of similar magnitude. In the picture the white dwarf can be glimpsed as a small horizontal elongation of the "star" at the centre of the nebula (note that RA direction in the image is vertical so tracking error do not elongate stars in that direction), testament to the quality of the Intes Micro optics (and good seeing too!).

The luminance layer is a combination of Clear, UHC and RGB filtered shots, but essentially most of the strength of the luminance signal is due to the UHC part.
