Description

The Heart Nebula (aka IC 1805 or Sharpless 2-190), about 7500 light-years distant from Earth, is located in the Perseus Arm of the Milky Way Galaxy in the constellation of Cassiopeia. Also pictured is the Fish-Head Nebula (IC 1795), which is part of the Heart Nebula complex and is about 6000 light-years distant from Earth. Both are immense gas cloud structures that glow in mostly red hues from the excitation of ionized hydrogen atoms due to radiation from local stars.
