Description

Very bad conditions with lots of clouds. Used scheduler in Ekos to restart 5 min after each abort. Got a few subs in the morning. Processed the 9 usable.

IC 443 is a supernova remnant in the constellation Gemini, also known as the Jellyfish Nebula¹². It is the remains of a massive star that exploded about 8,000 years ago, creating a shock wave that interacts with the surrounding interstellar medium¹². It is located at a distance of about 5,000 light years from Earth and has a diameter of about 70 light years¹².

IC 443 has two main parts: a shell of gas that is expanding outward from the supernova explosion, and a denser region of gas that was part of a molecular cloud that the supernova encountered¹². The shell of gas emits mostly in radio and X-ray wavelengths, while the denser region emits mostly in infrared and optical wavelengths, creating the appearance of a jellyfish[^1]^ [2]^.

IC 443 is one of the best-studied supernova remnants, and has been observed by various telescopes, such as the Hubble Space Telescope, the Spitzer Space Telescope, and the Chandra X-ray Observatory[^1]^ [2]^ . It is also a source of gamma rays, which may be produced by cosmic rays accelerated by the shock wave[^1]^ [2]^ .

NGC 2174 is an emission nebula in the constellation Orion, also known as the Monkey Head Nebula³ . It is a region of star formation and interstellar gas and dust, illuminated by the radiation from young hot stars³ . It is located at a distance of about 6,400 light years from Earth and has a diameter of about 40 light years[^3]^ [4]^.

NGC 2174 contains several interesting features, such as dark globules of dust that may form new stars in the future, and a reflection nebula (NGC 2175) that scatters the light from nearby stars[^3]^ [4]^ . It also contains an open star cluster (also called NGC 2175) that consists of about 30 stars with an age of about 10 million years[^3]^ [4]^ .

NGC 2174 was discovered by William Herschel in 1786, and was later observed by John Herschel and Edward Barnard[^3]^ [4]^ . It has been imaged by various telescopes, such as the Hubble Space Telescope, which revealed many details of its structure and dynamics[^3]^ [4]^ .
