Description

This faint planetary nebula, known as Ferrero 6, Fe 6, and G129.6+03.4, is located in the constellation of Cassiopeia at a declination of +65 degrees.  Not much is known about this PN, including its distance or magnitude.  It is 3.3 arc-minutes in diameter.  It appears to be an old (ancient) PN, which typical have diameters on the order of 5 light years.  If that is the case here, it is about 5000 light years away.

It is named after French amateur astronomer Laurent Ferrero, who discovered it in 2013, but I have also read that it was identified in a survey earlier in 2011 by Dr. Laurence Sabin.  Regardless, it is a faint interesting object with a nice mix of HII and OIII.  The progenitor star is seen in the center, a characteristic tiny faint blue star.

The top and bottom of this PN appear to be bulging out just a bit, suggesting bi-polar behavior,  The bright HII region at the top of the PN is likely where it is interacting with the surrounding ISM.
