Description

Croc's Eye Galaxy is a face on galaxy about 15 million light years away.  It's close enough for bright individual stars to be resolved and measured by the Hubble Space Telescope!

Processing this image was interesting.  I wanted to make sure the outer dust ring was visible but it's didn't want to try too hard.  I ended up not doing much with it independent of the main galaxy structure.  The galaxy was a RGB image with H-alpha combined.   The stars were RGB only which allowed for the variation in colors from blue to red.  This final touch (I add stars back at the end) is what completes the image for me.

Mixed in with all the stars in the field are a lot of tiny galaxies.. tiny to us at least!  The image was processed with 2x drizzle in an effort to bring out a bit more detail in the galaxy and not loose much of the little guys hanging out all over the field.  Zoom in and pan around, it's fun to go hunting for those wee little guys!
