Description

This remarkable galaxy has unfortunately a very low brightness and would require much more exposition time. It was discovered by William Herschel on 24 april 1789. It is a large, almost face on, spiral galaxy with a large core irregular in form and a fragmentary and difficult to trace spiral structure. The entire enveloppe is peppered with bright, knotty HII regions, some of them quite large. I will retry imaging it with a much longer integrated exposure time. Angular size 5'x3', distance 14 mly.
