Description

This object is a small spiral galaxy located 220 million light years away in the constellation of Cygnus at a declination of +56 degrees. This galaxy spans 1.5 arc-minutes in our apparent view, which corresponds to an actual diameter of 100,000 light years.

This is one of the few images that I present with south as up. When north is up for this object, what I believe to be the near side of the galaxy is up. I have a hard time visualizing objects when the near side is up.

I like the subtle blue/red color variations of this galaxy. Several interesting dark dust bands are visible on the lower left side of the disk. A number of bright star regions are visible in the upper right side of the disk.

I find the arm structure of this disk to be very odd. The arms are wound tightly and end at mid-disk. The outer disk is diffuse with no arm detail.
