Description

M108 is a big, bright barred spiral galaxy in Ursa Major. It appears nearly edge on, an has no typical central bulge. M108 is one of the largest members of the Ursa Major Cluster with nearly 400 billion stars at a distance of 46 million light years.

If you search for award winners on Astrobin almost all the results are wide field shots of M108 paired with the nearby Owl nebula. While these are all fantastic, I chose my longest focal length to shoot just M108 and found that the details came through fairly well. The Ha was certainly interesting and really added to the end product.
