Description

This object is a rarely imaged small triple galaxy system located 200 million light years away in the constellation of Pegasus at a declination of +31 degrees. This system spans 2.5 arc-minutes in our apparent view, which corresponds to a width of 150,000 light years for the 3 galaxies. This suggests that each galaxy is fairly small.

From left to right, the 3 galaxies in the image are KUG 2359+311, NGC 7806 and NGC 7805. The largest galaxy in the center, spiral galaxy NGC 7806, is distorted with the left arm extending far upwards in a manner consistent with gravitational interaction with the spiral galaxy to the right, NGC 7805. The most interesting galaxy is the left one, which is classified as a spiral galaxy. We must be looking at this galaxy from nearly exactly edge-on. The bend in the galaxy is interesting and is likely due to gravitation interaction with NGC 7806.

This trio was placed by Arp in the category "Elliptical and elliptical like galaxies with repelling arms" which is a bit odd since none of these much resemble an elliptical galaxy to me.

Numerous distant faint galaxies are visible in the background.
