Description

This object is a grand spiral barred galaxy located 90 million light years away in the constellation of Canis Major at a declination of -28 degrees. This galaxy spans 3.5 arc-minutes in our apparent view, which corresponds to a diameter of 90,000 light years. We are looking at this galaxy about 25 degrees from edge-on.

Each arm spirals more than 360 degrees out from the barred core. The details on this galaxy proved elusive for me, perhaps because of the low declination.
