Description

Messier 84, a galaxy in Virgo. More importantly, it is part of Markarian's Chain of galaxies.

Processing in Pixinsight using NSG, DBE, and PCC. ColorCombined RGB and Luminance stretched using Histogram Transformation then adjusted with HDR Multiscale Transform. L and RGB combination using LRGB Combination. Nonlinear processing using SCNR, a touch of TGV Denoise with Range Mask, a curves transformation to boost highlights/reduce shadows, and a final curve adjustment for color.

This is only my second LRGB image and there is still some learning to be done. The image was generally noisy (thanks to location and the constant growth of neighborhood lighting), but the noise was at least fairly uniform/well distributed. The biggest issue is actually the various color masters appear to be slightly distorted from one another: that is, the Blue and Red masters are not aligned across the entire field. It was the first time using batch preprocessing rather than manually so we'll have to explore that potential source.

There is also some coloration in the background...not sure how much is real and how much should have been removed in processing.

I'll also have to take a close look at RGB subframe duration. I typically used my older OSC camera with 5 minute subframes: and while the 2-minute RGB frames help me keep more of them, it may have also affected the total noise.
