Description

M 104, The Sombrero galaxy in Virgo, approx. 30 million ly distant. It seems to exhibit some characteristics of a spiral galaxy, and some of a lenticular galaxy, and its classification is therefore uncertain. Also visible are some much more distant galaxies, including at lower right near one of the bright stars the magnitude 16.6 LEDA 96296387, approx 1.3 billion ly distant. 87 x 5 min exposures (7.25 hours) through my Australian made Beamtech CDK250, 10 inch aperture f/5.8 Corrected Dall Kirkham OTA mounted on my 10Micron GM1000 HPS mount. Captured with an Optolong L-Pro light pollution filter and a ZWO ASI2600MC Pro colour APS-C CMOS camera cooled at -15 deg C, with image capture, mount, camera and focuser control with a ZWO Asiair Plus capture device, from our rural and fairly dark (Bortle 2/3) backyard in New Zealand, with an approximately 50% illuminated moon up for some of the time. Stacked in Astro Pixel Processor then processed in Pixinsight.
