Description

The Monkey Head Nebula (NGC 2174) was captured in my backyard in Oro Valley, AZ.
It is an emission nebula in the constellation Orion about 6400 light years from earth. It is a region of star formation and intense stellar winds.  I performed 7 days of imaging on this target. Ultimately, I used approximately 33 hours of data in SHO.To create a representation of “natural” looking stars, I used a dynamic integration of SHO channels using Pixelmath. The nebula is a fornax SHO blend as well. I enjoy using these blends as they approach a more natural appearance to the eye while still allowing you to see the separate ionized gasses to some degree.
