Am 03.12.2021 passiert Komet Leonard den Kugelsternhaufen Messier 3. Nach Wochen schlechtem Wetter und keiner einzigen Möglichkeit den Kometen zu fotgrafieren, bietet sich tatsächlich an diesem besagten Morgen ein Wolkenfreies Zeitfenster, zumindest in den verschiedenen Wetterapps. Ich setze also alles auf eine Karte und baue das Setup im Garten auf. E sind immer noch Wolken gegen 23:00 Uhr. Und plötzlich lichtet sich der Himmel zum Polar Alignment. Noch ca. 2 Stunden bis C/2021-A1 bei ca 8 Grad am Himmel sichtbar sein wird, kurzes Pause um dann fit zu sein. DA ich keine OSC Camera besutze, muss ich MONO belichten. Das habe ich bei Kometen noch nie getan ( Oh mann). Ich fange also mit Luminanz an zu belichten, gegen 5:30 Uhr ist bereits wieder Wolken gemeldet. Ich muss auch noch RGB aufnehmen, ziemlicher Zwiespalt muss ich sagen . Aber es reicht letzendlich. Tatsächlich verarbeiten kann ich also 115 Einzelaufnahmen a 30 sec, der letze Kanal dann bei gerade mal 15 Grad. Und das genau in der Lichtglocke der BASF in Ludwigshafen. Das die Bearbeitung der Daten nicht einfach würde, war mir direkt klar. Zumal ich fast alles in PixInsight bearbeitet und kalibriert habe, auch zum ersten Mal ( früher DSS und PS). Während den Aufnahmen an dem Morgen, war es mir auch möglich, den Kometen mit meinem Fernglas zu bestaunen...Klasse! 

Mittlerweile sind so spektakuläre Aufnahmen von Leonard aus Sicht der Südhalbkugel im Netz... aber ich bin froh mir die Nacht um die Ohren geschlagen zu haben und das kosmische Event rund um Leonard und M3 fotografisch festgehalten zu haben. Ich denke das Bild spiegelt dies wieder. Was denkt Ihr?

On December 3rd, 2021 Comet Leonard will pass the globular cluster Messier 3. After weeks of bad weather and not a single opportunity to photograph the comet, there is actually a cloud-free time window on this morning, at least in the various weather apps. So I put everything on one card and set up the equipment in the garden. There are still clouds around 11 p.m. And suddenly the sky clears for polar alignment. Another 3 hours until C / 2021-A1 will be visible in the sky at about 8 degrees, a short break to be fit. Since I don't have an OSC camera, I have to image MONO. I've never done that with comets (oh man). So I start to image with luminance, around 5:30 a.m. clouds are already reported again. I also have to record RGB, I have to say quite a conflict . But in the end it is enough time. In fact, I can process 115  exposures of 30 seconds each, the last channel then at just 15 degrees. And exactly in the light bell of BASF industry in Ludwigshafen. It was immediately clear to me that processing the data would not be easy. Especially since I edited and calibrated almost everything in PixInsight, also for the first time (before comets in  DSS and PS). During the session that morning, I was also able to observe the comet with my binoculars ... Great!

There are now some spectacular photos of Leonard from the southern hemisphere on the web ... but I'm glad I got through the night and captured the cosmic event around Leonard and M3 photographically. I think the image reflects that. What do you think?
