Description

This Astrobin Debut Object, known as both NGC 1452 and NGC 1455, s a lenticular galaxy located 75 million light years away in the constellation of Eridanus at a declination of -19 degrees.  It is a magnitude 12.5 galaxy which spans 3 arc-minutes in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a diameter of 70,000 light years. This galaxy is part of the Eridanus cluster of approximately 200 galaxies, discovered by William Herschel in 1785.

I love this structure – a barlense across the inner region, spanning a mid-disk ring.  Bright ansae are seen at each end of the bar.  The disk inclination to us is closer to edge-on than face-on.  The ring faintly splits at each end of the oval.

It is hard to see clearly, but it looks to me like a small dwarf galaxy is embedded in the upper right part of the outer disk.  Some asymmetric disturbance is seen, with a void to the left of the bright stellar-like object and a brighter area to the right.
