Description

This image of the Cygnus Sadr region in H-Alpha wavelength was produced using the QHY600M Short BFL camera mounted on the Celestron RASA 8" via the Baader FCCT II.  The QHY600M was always my dream camera with it's full frame 61MP Sony IMX455 and the Celestron RASA 8" F2 Astrograph was my dream telescope.  Thanks to the innovation of Baader Planetarium creating the Filter Changer Camera Tilter, I could bring my dream equipment together to produce a shocking 5 degree wide field of view using the RASA 8"!  Of course after putting this equipment together, we were plagued with forest fire smoke from wildfires but in between the smoke and clouds I used a Baader IR Pass filter to see through the lighter smoke to adjust the tilt of the camera which the RASA 8" is famous for.  After struggling to get the tilt corrected (mostly), I decided to use a 45min time window before sunrise with more clouds and smoke forecasted for the next 7 days to take my first image.  What you see today as a result of my perseverance!  There are still some distorted stars in a corner but once we have clear skies again I will work on fixing that.  Overall I am very pleased with the results so far!  I look forward to capturing some of the best images in this up coming nebula season!  Clear Skies!

This image was taken from my backyard near Chicago, IL, USA via Bortle 9 and smoky skies!
