Description

This is my first time to capture the Ring Nebula.  This is quite a small target even for 7.5" aperture, but I liked the star field so I left the wide FOV and then added a close up.  I never realized there was a ring around the Ring Nebula.  This planetary nebula is the glowing remains of a sun-like star, the tiny white dot in the center of the nebula.  This star is a white dwarf.   M57 is about 2,000 light-years away in the constellation Lyra and was discovered by the French astronomer Antoine Darquier de Pellepoix in 1779.  According to the NASA website, the deep blue color in the center represents helium, the light blue color of the inner ring is the glow of hydrogen and oxygen, and the reddish color of the outer ring is from nitrogen and sulfur.

In close aparent view is IC 1296 a 15th magnitude Sprial Galaxy that is around 260 million light years away.
