Description

The image of the Flaming Star Nebula was taken on December 10, 2021. The weather was as usual, few scattered clouds. Normally, when my equipment is stuck inside for weeks at a time due to weather, I end up trying to capture as many DSO as possible during a evening session.

But, eventually the images all ended up requiring more exposure time. When the opportune time arises (scattered clouds), I will pull out my arsenal of accessories to combat light-polluted skies; An assortment of optical accessories to maximize the shortest imaging (time based) session possible!

The Flaming Star Nebula is also known as IC405, located in the constellation Auriga at 1500 light-years from our planet, and spans approximately five light years. There is also a bright star (not as bright in this image), to the upper left of the IC405. A bright, densely massive, intensive O-type hot star! According to NASA, the star is moving rapidly through space, from the results of a collision, with multiple stars in the Orion Nebula millions of years ago.
