Description

The Tadpole Nebula (IC 410) is located 12,000 light-years from Earth in the Charioteer constellation, Auriga. IC 410 is a region of ionised hydrogen over 100 light-years across that has been carved and sculpted by stellar winds (streams of charged particles) coming from open star cluster NGC 1893.

The two cosmic tadpoles, swimming in from the left towards the centre, are dense clouds of dust and gas about 10 light-years long that may well be sites of star formation.
