Description

This Astrobin Debut Object is a small galaxy group located 280 million light years away in the constellation of Sagittarius at a declination of -31 degrees.  All 4 of these galaxies are classified as elliptical or lenticular galaxies.  The largest galaxy, Hickson 86A, spans 1 arc-minutes in our apparent view, which corresponds to a diameter of 80,000 light years.

Although these galaxies are close enough together to be considered a group, the data shows that they are still millions of light years apart.  None of them appear to be disturbed.  The galaxy in the upper right corner should also be included in this group, since it is about the same distance away.
