Description

Worked very hard and took one of the biggest risks of my life- and it all paid off. I had never done solar imaging 2 weeks ago, didn’t plan on imaging the eclipse, and planned on maybe getting some solar glasses to see what I could see. Everywhere near me was forecasted as clouds, and the only clear spot in totality were 13 hours away.

I changed my mind for some reason. I invested in a white light solar filter for my ED80, bought the glasses, and started looking for specific spots where clouds could break in Indiana. I practiced a bit imaging the sun from my apartment, and made the 7 hour drive to Louisville on Sunday night. I drove around the lower parts of Indiana to find a spot that had good odds of being clear. I settled on a disc golf course in Nineveh.

There were high clouds hanging around, but it didn’t spoil it. It was eerie, beautiful, and unforgettable. Red solar prominences were visible to the naked eye during totality, and came through in my images. Two sunspots are also visible. I’ll never settle for a partial solar eclipse again if it’s in my power to see totality.
