Description

The total cost of this was about $12 ($10 for the solar sheet and $2 for construction paper). I actually used a piece of a bigger sheet so my effective cost was closer to like $4.

I used a similar filter for my SCT back in 2017 for the eclipse. Thought I'd make a smaller one for my AT60ED. I have a video on what you'll need, the step by step guide on making this, and my tests with a DSLR in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4UxZnakBYpU

This is part of a solar eclipse/solar safety series I'm making on my channel. This is the third one in the series. Consider subscribing to my channel: https://youtube.com/Naztronomy

I tested this out with and without a Barlow (f/6 360mm FL vs f/12 720mm FL).

Equipment for the image:
  • Canon T5i with intervalometer
  • AT60ED with 2x Barlow
  • Orion Skyview Mount (manually tracked)
  • ISO-400
  • 1/200 sec exposure
  • Thousand Oaks Optical solar filter sheet

Tested this with other exposure and ISO as well and results are similar (going down in ISO, up in Exposure, and vice versa).
