Description

M33 - The Triangulum Galaxy

Here shown as an LRGB + Ha image, M33 is a spiral galaxy located about 2.7 million light years from the Milky Way and is the third largest of the local group behind our own galaxy and M31 in Andromeda.

The LRGB image has been enhanced by the addition of HA data (using lighten mode in Photoshop with a selective mask) to bring out regions of HA emission in the galaxy, and this shows both star forming regions such as NGC604, as well as loops, arcs and bubbles in the outer arms of the galaxy.
