Description

This Astrobin Debut Object is a face-on spiral galaxy located 200 million light years away in the constellation of Eridanus at a declination of -5 degrees.  It is a magnitude 12 galaxy which spans 2 arc-minutes in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a Milky Way like diameter of 115,000 light years.

The disk is disturbed, with a core that is offset to the upper left.  The arm structure is fragmented and hard to trace.  Several VV rows are seen.

It is not clear to me what is causing disturbance.  Several small galaxies appear nearby but no distance information is available for them.  I believe they are distant large spirals (instead of nearby companion dwarfs) due to their established spiral structure.
