Description

M005 was discovered by Gottfried Kirch in 1702. Charles Messier added it to his notes in 1764.

Located near the star 5 Serpentis in the constellation Serpens, it can easily be seen with binoculars. The apparent brightness is magnitude 10.6. There are 105 stars in M5 known to be variable in brightness.

This image is not well focused, but the processing is a little bit better than what I did with the Atik Infinity camera earlier. This image is a stack of 42 images at 8s each with Bias, Darks, and Flats compared to the earlier Infinity image which was a single 15 second exposure. See https://www.astrobin.com/idbjz9/0/.
