Description

Sh2-129 is also called the "Flying Bat" nebula due to the form of the nebulosity which is the red part of the object. Located in the constellation of Cepheus and approximately 1300 light-years away from our little blue planet. OU4 or Giant Squid the blue part was discovered lately by the French amateur astronomer Nicolas Outters in 2011 and is about 2300 light-years away from Earth. It is very faint and only appears with narrowband oxygen filter (OIII). It was originally called a planetary nebula but recently in 2014 researchers concluded that Ou4 is a bipolar outflow launched some 90,000 years ago from the massive triple star system HR 8119 located inside the Sh 2-129 HII region. HR 8119 is also responsible for ionizing the red emission nebula Sh2-129.
