Description

This object is a dim dwarf irregular galaxy located only about 10 million light years away in the constellation of Ursa Major at a declination of +68 degrees. It spans about half the diameter of our Milky Way.

This object was discovered by American astronomer Edwin Coddington in 1898 at the Lick Observatory and originally was classified as a nebula.  It is nicknamed Coddington's Nebula as a result, which results in some confusion for this small galaxy.

Amidst the dim star clouds of this galaxy are a number of bright areas which are believed to reflect intense star producing activity.
