Description

More out of pure luck than anything, I was imaging M101 for two nights just after supernova SN 2023ixf was detected. With little more than 3 hours to add to my 10 hours from 2021 and 2022, this was a tough image to pull more detail out of. Luminance, yes - and it was much quicker to process and involved fewer masks & freehand adjustments, but for some reason NGC5474 (my favourite dwarf galaxy ever) has more detail in my 2022 M101 image. I processed this TWICE to see if I could pull out the faint stars visible in my 2022 shot but no dice.
