Description

Before imaging the Soul nebula on 10-28-22, I tried my luck getting some shots of the Helix. This was hit and miss since in my area of the world the Helix is relatively low in the horizon. Thus, when I was hoping to shoot it, the trees were blocking this nebula. So, I waited and waited and finally it emerged from behind the tree limbs, and I got in some shots in before the Helix vanished among the trees again. I was only able to get about 12 usable shots and I used a Takahashi FSQ-130ED refractor operating at a focal length of 650mm. My imaging camera was a Canon Ra. I did use a light pollution filter and a custom white balance. Dark frames were taken and they did help and I used a library of Bias frames. No flat frames were used. My ISO was 1600 and the image duration was 300 seconds. The image you see was cropped from the field of view of my camera sensor. I used a 200mm focal length guide scope and a ZWO guide camera. I used PHD2 software for the guiding and also APT software. I did use dithering between images.
