Description

Capturing the Medusa Nebula was my first fully narrowband project with the new ASI533MM Pro monochrome camera and Astronomik filters for the ionized hydrogen Hα and oxygen OIII lines. The data collection took me several nights, mostly around the February new moon, when clear skies, dry weather, and a relatively stable atmosphere finally opened up. I used exposures of 10 and 15 min per frame at -20C sensor cooling and Gain 0. I accumulated about 9 hours per filter, giving a total integration time of about 18 hours. The accumulated material went a long way to producing the final result. I had to experiment first with different formulas to combine the data, settling on the HOO palette.
