Description

One of my favorite targets...

The Cygnus Wall is an emission ridge in Cygnus composed of a concentrated star forming region within NGC 7000 – the North American Nebula. The ridge spans about 20 light years. The North American Nebula itself is about 2500 light years from Earth. These HII regions (including those in the nearby Pelican Nebula) shine due to the ultraviolet radiation from a super hot star. In 2004, European astronomers discovered the likely ionizing star – J205551.3+435225 - with a temperature of over 40,000 degrees Kelvin. It visually lies just off the “Florida coast” of the North American Nebula and is dimmed by the dark cloud L935 to an optical magnitude of 13.2. (Wikipedia)
