Description

The Triangulum Galaxy is the third largest in our local group of galaxies.  It lies around 2.5 to 3 million light years away, ie a little further distant from us than the Andromeda Galaxy.  In this image the red channel has been augmented with H-alpha data and the blue channel with O-III data.  This helps to bring out the star forming regions in the spiral arms, including NGC604 which is one of the largest HII regions in our local group of galaxies.
