Description

Sitting here at the feet of the Celestial Twins of Gemini is IC 443, the Jellyfish Nebula which is neither a pet or companion of the half-brothers Castor and Pollux (the twins of Gemini from Greek mythology who shared immortality in the heavens are half-brother twins....same mother...different fathers...you do the math and also the half siblings of Helen of Troy and Clytemnestra).

The Jellyfish Nebula found its way to the feet of Castor and Pollux as a massive supernova remnant that occurred somewhere between 3000 and 30000 years ago creating a nearby neutron star. Roughly 5000 light years from the nearest smaller jellyfish sibling on planet Earth, this picture represents over 4 hours of 5 minute exposures captured on a frigidly cold night (-2F) in Minnesota on Christmas Eve spanning into Christmas morning. Enjoy and please dont step on the Jellyfish....
