Description

Got only 16 subs a 300s before the clouds. Cold! -10C, fought hard to get system functional, almost gave up. No calibration, no polar alignment,  glad I got something in the end.

NGC 2237 and NGC 2238 are parts of the **Rosette Nebula**¹²³⁴. It is an **emission nebula** in the constellation Monoceros, about 5,000 light years away from Earth¹²³.

The Rosette Nebula is a large region of interstellar gas and dust that is ionized by the radiation from hot stars¹²³. It contains a young open cluster, NGC 2244, which lies at the center of the nebula and is responsible for creating a hole in the nebulous material¹²³. The nebula also has several dark globules of dust that may form new stars in the future¹²³.

The Rosette Nebula was discovered by **William Herschel** in 1785, but its different parts were catalogued separately by different astronomers¹². NGC 2237 and NGC 2246 were discovered by **Lewis Swift** in 1871 and 1885, respectively¹. NGC 2238 was discovered by **Albert Marth** in 1864¹. NGC 2239 was discovered by **John Herschel** in 1830¹. NGC 2244 was discovered by **John Flamsteed** in 1690¹.

The Rosette Nebula has an apparent magnitude of **6.0** and can be seen with binoculars or a small telescope¹². It appears as a diffuse patch of reddish light near the star Beta Monocerotis¹². It is best seen from the northern hemisphere during winter months².
