Description

Our first night camping in Joshua Tree, and serendipitously, the last (only?) night Mars + Pleiades was visible within a single frame of my 480mm full-frame astrograph.

Conscious that Mars' orbital motion meant that only 1-2 hours of data would be possible before it would become wonky looking while processing; I used a high ISO on my Sony A7III, and with the good graces of dark desert sky, captured a lot of nebulosity in Pleiades while keeping Mars' shape from becoming too oblong - using just 1 hour and 6 minutes of integration.

I love the contrast in colors, the capturing of both a solar system and deep sky object in one photo, and the significance of Mars in recent days given the successful landing of Perseverance.
