Description

A short animation with Mars from Oct 2020, which recently went over the winter solstice. The captures span over 1 hour, and were made in Bucharest.

What we can see at the bottom is the southern polar cap, which can reach up to 400km in diameter, and in the center is the area called the Mare Erythraeum. It received this name as it was believed that there is an area with liquid water, at least that's what I think the whole scientific industry hoped for. However, it is speculated that there really was water in serious quantities, sometime in the past. There's a fantastic documentary from BBC, which talks about this, and is called "The Planets"
