Description

This was my take on the Comet C/2022 E3 (ZTF). This is one of the times when I wish I had less focal length to get it's incredibly long tail. It's about 2 hours and 4 minutes. I have 61 frames of LRGB each at 30 seconds each. This was done under Bortle 7 skies so I want more time, but it rose late and the sun came up quick

This was kind of complicated to process. It could be from my lack of processing knowledge, but I think I made it work.
  • I used WBPP to calibrate, register and integrate the images.
  • I have LRGB masters which show the stars all aligned, but has a trailing comet.
  • Then I took the registered images, and then used comet alignment for each of the filters. This is where I did what I think was the only way I could get the comet to work. I did a batch processing of all the comet aligned pictures in StarXterminator to remove the stars and leave me with individual starless images of the comet.
  • I then integrated the starless images to get the LRGB masters for the comet
  • I then proceeded to process the Comet as any other target with the following steps
    • DBE
    • PixelMath to combine RGB
    • SPCC
    • NoiseXTerminator
    • EZ STF
    • Curves Transformation
    • LRGB Combination
    • HDRMT

  • I still had the original integrated images with the stars and did most of the same steps as above. I also did BlurXTerminator to get a bit sharper stars as well.
  • I stretched the image and then removed the stars using StarXTerminator.
  • I then did PixelMath to merge the Stars and the Starless Comet image together to get the above image.
