Description

This image represents my AP reality. This is a frustrating hobby in that once one reaches a moderate level of competence in running one's gear and is able to achieve consistent results with things being in the proper place and focus, one is 100 percent at the mercy of... the weather. Fooled by what looks to the eye like cloudless sky and high contrast images on a computer screen, some may wake early in anticipation of loading images into PI only to find that their FWHM is in the "poor" category and calibration is impossible. Fun times! The point is one invests too much time and trouble and actual money to just throw away 10 hours of preparation and execution in imaging a target.

So anyway here is M53, 60 @ 300 seconds, no calibration frames, funky diffraction spikes from bad seeing, 5 hours, noisy AF. I want to thank everyone for their support since I took the plunge to participate in the social aspect of this site, and I think it is not a coincidence that most of us have similar experiences and are mostly, backyard. I also think it's more and more important for us to support each other because this site is changing fast and I suspect not all of the changes are for the better.

CS,

scott
