Description

As a favour to our neighbours, I was taking a night sky timelapse of their house against the Milky Way.

While the night wasn't great - clouds were never far away and completely rolled in by 1pm - I did catch an Aurora Australis low in the South.

At least I think its an Aurora - it is due south over the top of the Remarkables mountain range - and not the lights of Queenstown - which is more SouthWest and rarely purple.

The colour is quite vivid in this shot - not least because my Canon 6D is unmodified.

Note to Astrobin - there is a category for Northern lights, but not Southern Lights. As a protest against this blatant henispherism, I have filed this under widefield.]
