Description

Hidden by a veil of stars, gas and dust clouds, the barred spiral galaxy IC 342 lies about 10 million LY away in the constellation Camleopardis.
It lies optically on the long axis of our Milky Way, which is why we are looking through such a dense sea of material that is between us and this galaxy.
It is about 10 million light years away and has a diameter of about 60,000 light years. It is classified as a Seyfert-2 galaxy.
As you can see from my "feeding" of H-alpha filtered light in this image, there are numerous reddish H-alpha regions in IC 342, which suggests active star formation regions.
