Ionised by HD 165319 (?a runaway star from a cluster in the Eagle Nebula?), SH2-46 is a H2 nebula well above the galactic plane. Not much more I can find out. 

I feel I should have been able to get better noise reduction than this but the multiple cavities are part of the structure it appears. 

Not often photographed. https://www.astrobin.com/wam362/?q=sh2-46 by Jerryyyy  (very nice picture Jerryyyy!) looks better but I think I have more detail.
